As much as I love sunshine and heat, sometimes I need a little bit of shade in the summertime. Pergolas and/or umbrellas are essential pieces to outdoor decor. If you can design with a custom-made pergola, by all means do so, because they are gorgeous. However, umbrellas are assets for those that get tired easily because they are way more simple to switch in and out if you want a change. There are two ways to attack an umbrella approach:

Print/Pattern on both pieces- Keep the same theme but feel free to experiment with colors. Sometimes doing the same stripe on top and bottom can be too matchy-matchy.

Heavy Pattern - If you choose to focus only one on busy pattern you should then identify a color that you want to intensify and choose a rug that matches perfectly.
